@Website design - They do need a minimum of profitability too. Usually Apple cuts their prices quite rapidly, but at launch, expect to pay a premium. It's not such a big deal when you think about firstly the great ROI since the device work beautifully and you save on fixing things (which you need in Windows), and secondly the great re-sale value of Apple machines. They don't devalue as much as PC's.

If they wanted to get more businesses using OSX, they'd cut the price in half for their computer line.

My feeling is that Google is ahead, as everyone seems to think cloud computing is the next big thing. Although I do not like cloud computing, it is the wave of the future, as we move to a world where communications devices and computers all increasingly network with each other. I believe that this trend will mean that having integrated hardware and software as with Apple will become more unnecessary. If I were part of the Apple directorship, I would develop a Windows version of its flagship software like its iLife suite , and release more Apple software on other OS or platforms. I would also go back to basics and concentrate on getting more corporate big businesses to use OSX as opposed to Windows 7, in parallel with dominating the mobile market further. I would also concentrate on improving OSX further and attracting more 3rd party software applications for OSX, perhaps to the point where power users no longer feel the need to use Windows at all on a Mac.

Thanks for the feedback, MacBoy. Most definitely - I think some of the other biggies will still play catch-up internally or if they are more astute, perform some highly-beneficial acquisitions.

Good analysis, I like the breakdowns. Will be interesting to see how the biggies compete while having to partner on certain things.
